Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) claimed an emotional victory at the Rally de Portugal, securing Hyundai’s first win of the 2026 WRC season after a dramatic final-stage puncture deprived Sébastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) of a win that seemed firmly under control.
The Belgian driver completed a strong comeback after his disappointment in Croatia, staying close to Sébastien Ogier throughout the weekend before inheriting the lead on the penultimate stage, when the eight-time world champion suffered a devastating puncture on the second pass through Vieira do Minho.
Sébastien Ogier had dominated much of the rally and arrived on Sunday with a solid lead after perfectly managing the mixed conditions on Saturday. However, the demanding Portuguese gravel stages once again proved decisive, and a puncture with just one stage remaining ruined his chances of taking an eighth victory in the event.
Behind Neuville, Oliver Solberg (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend to secure second place overall. The Swede even led the rally during Saturday after a brilliant attack in the rain and recovered well from his own issues to seal a deserved podium.
Championship leader Elfyn Evans (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) completed the podium in third place, scoring crucial points in his title campaign. Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) finished fourth after a strong comeback, while Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) rounded out the top five after another consistent rally.
Sébastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) had to settle for sixth place after his major setback on the final day, while Sami Pajari (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) also dropped back after suffering a puncture.
Further back, Dani Sordo (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) completed a difficult event in eighth, followed by Mārtiņš Sesks (Ford Puma Rally1) in ninth and Teemu Suninen (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2), who completed the overall top ten after a strong Rally2 performance.

In the WRC2 category, Teemu Suninen (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2) secured a well-earned victory after a very strong rally, maintaining consistent pace from the early stages and holding off pressure in the decisive moments to take the win at the Rally de Portugal.

One of the standout drivers was Jan Solans (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2), who led the rally at one point and again showed strong pace on gravel, although he ultimately had to settle for fourth after setbacks in the final stages.

El piloto belga completó una gran revancha tras su decepción en Croacia, manteniéndose siempre cerca de Sébastien Ogier durante todo el fin de semana antes de heredar el liderato en la penúltima especial, cuando el ocho veces campeón del mundo sufrió un devastador pinchazo en el segundo paso por Vieira do Minho.

El italiano supo aprovechar los problemas de sus rivales en la fase decisiva para asegurar el triunfo.

Il pilota belga ha completato una grande rimonta dopo la delusione in Croazia, rimanendo sempre vicino a Sébastien Ogier per tutto il fine settimana prima di ereditare la leadership nella penultima prova speciale, quando l’otto volte campione del mondo ha subito una foratura devastante nel secondo passaggio a Vieira do Minho.

Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) a remporté une victoire spectaculaire au Rallye du Portugal, offrant à Hyundai son premier succès de la saison 2026 du WRC après une crevaison dramatique dans la dernière spéciale qui a privé Sébastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) d’une victoire qui semblait pourtant acquise.
Le pilote belge a réalisé une superbe revanche après sa déception en Croatie, restant constamment au contact de Sébastien Ogier tout au long du week-end avant d’hériter de la tête dans la spéciale suivante, lorsque le huit fois champion du monde a subi une crevaison dévastatrice dans le deuxième passage de Vieira do Minho.
Sébastien Ogier avait dominé une grande partie du rallye et abordait le dimanche avec une avance solide après avoir parfaitement géré les conditions mixtes du samedi. Cependant, les difficiles spéciales en terre du Portugal ont une nouvelle fois été décisives et une crevaison à une spéciale de l’arrivée a ruiné ses chances de décrocher une huitième victoire sur l’épreuve.
